There are definitely a lot of things to do when you visit Chicago. I personally love it here! With parks, art, skyscrapers, friendly people, Lake Michigan and lots of places to explore I have selected out 5 things you should not miss out on while you are in Chicago. Have fun!
To see The Bean is a must do when you visit Chicago. The bean (originally Cloud Gate) has been made by Anish Kapoor and weights 110 tons. It is right in Millennium Park. Such a cool piece of art. Stop by during the day but make sure to go for a walk there in the night too and watch all the lights from the skyscrapers in The Bean. So pretty!
The Art Institute
The Art Institute of Chicago is one of the US most acknowledged art institutes. It’s located on Michigan Avenue. The beautiful old building has art from all over the world. You will find paintings, sculptures, photographs and architecture++. Everything you can imagine! There is a lot to see so you need to spend some hours in there to see it all.
Take the loop
Chicago has amazing public transportation. It’s so easy to get around and understand how the CTA (metro/subway) works if you are in town for the first time. The CTA takes you around the whole city and it makes “a loop” down town. Don’t miss out on a ride in the loop that goes above ground and around in Chicago city center!
Visit Pilsner & Wicker Park
I love, love, love these neighborhoods. Pilsner is a Mexican area in Chicago with lots of Mexican restaurants, some vintage shops, boutiques and bars. The area has lots of street art and it’s starting even before you get out of the train station. I LOVED this area. Come hungry and stop somewhere for cheap tacos and a drink. To get there: Pink line to 18th!
Wicker Park is another really nice area. Take the CTA blue line to Damen. Walk around and check out all the cute coffee bars, buy yourself a new pair of vintage clothing and wander on to grab a donut or some ice cream on the way back. I really loved this area too. Cool place to hang out or get some work done from one of the coffee bars.
Rent a bike & bike along the lake
Chicago offers city bikes and I highly recommend getting one to go along the Lake Michigan and see the city from that view. Along the lake, you will see Chicago’s skyline and you will get some space and time off from the traffic and the busy city life. 3 dollars for half an hour!
Enjoy! Have you ever been?
