One of the most beautiful places I have ever been to is definitely Gili Trawangan. Gili Trawangan is one of three beautiful islands right outside Lombok in Indonesia. All of the three islands are small, and really close to each other. You can get there from Bali with a boat and the ride is about two hours long. If you are staying at Lombok, you can take a local boat over to Gili Trawangan and it will take you about 20 minutes.
Are you staying in Bali or at Lombok? GO TO GILI ISLANDS. You won’t regret, I promise you! When you arrive, you can’t really believe your own eyes. The water is crystal clear and the sand is sooo white. When I arrived I saw the cutest Indonesian kids play by shore all naked jumping from the local boats, playing and swimming for hours. You can hear the mosque five times a day and you might wake up early in the morning of the sound of the prayers. Gili Trawangan is so magical!
The island is 3 km long and 2 km wide so it’s super small. There are no cars or scooters, so if you are arriving from Bali or Lombok you will notice the difference for sure. Haha! You can walk or rent a bike to get around the island. They also have horses and cart, but I never did that.. The island is so special. Walk from the “touristy” side of the island and meet the locals in the middle where they live in small cottages and prepare their own food outside in the yard. Their way of living inspired me so much!
There are lots of beautiful cafes, resturants and shops around the island. Go, explore and try different places! You can rent a paddle board and paddle across to Gili Meno if you would like that, or you can go snorkling at Turtle shore and see if you can spot some turtles. The beach is absolutely stunning, and the sunset is nothing to complain about either. I am telling you – I LOVE THIS ISLAND!!!!
The people are so friendly and have this amazing “Don’t worry – Be happy” spirit. Me and my bestfriend, Anette, had a late night walk one of our nights, and met these super chilled Indonesian guys sitting on a street corner singing Bob Marley songs. We sat down and sang with them, and just enjoyed being present!
If you ever go to Bali or Lombok, go to Gili Trawangan too! I LOVED it, and can’t wait to go back one day.
